Security and computer technology have always gone hand in hand. Any company involved in the IT world has to consider information security. This goes for information security, physical security and security from risks or dangers out of your control. Many of these risks can be solved by using security products and some common sense.
Information security is probably best described as protecting the integrity, confidentiality and availability of information. This means protecting 
information and information systems from unauthorised access, making changes to the information, deleting the information and use of the information system and breakdown of it.
Data integrity and information security should be easy to understand. Data integrity means that information won't be changed, created or deleted by an unauthorised person. If you use a database it is a good idea to have strong information security as changes can destroy relevancy and make data redundent.
The data protection act was set up to make businesses take responsibility for their customers private data and information security. It is easy to see why data protection is of high concern for organisations as they must adhere to its rules. Insuring that your rackmount server is safe in every way possible is also important. Everything from making sure you have server room air conditioning installed so it doesn't over heat to making sure you store back ups off site.
